End of term evaluation

So its the end of term and though we've had many difficulties choosing our idea, because of our first idea being a total disaster i am glad to say that we are finally getting our work done and catching up to everyone. we have a solid and doable idea for our opening sequence and also i think we are all working together more as a team now which is really good. 

for the holidays things that i will be planning on working on are

by the time we come back i hope that all this would have being achieved so that we would be ready to start filming our opening sequence.

from the finding pre our audience research, questionnaire and focus group we have gathered information which allows us to be able to make some changes that will grab our targeted audience more 

• Close up of computer, email pops up onto the screen
• Close up of a womans hand using the keyboard with red nail vanish on, muttering of song 
• Back to the close up of the computer screen, the email is opened and it reads "Amy today you will meet your prince charming. He will solve a problem for you, but dont let him slip away, you have to repay the favour or you will never find love."
• Amy reads the email and says quietly to herself 'Prince charming?!',
• Pan on the clock, Amy looks at the time and shouts 'home time!'
• Amy is seen walking out of the door
• Tilt from feet upwards on Amy walking down a street on her way home from work. (She is smartly dressed)
• She walks past a poor man who is counting his money, he notices her being followed by a boy
• As she walks past the poor man (Justin) the boy grabs her bag and runs
• Justin starts to chase the boy
• There will be a short montage of the homeless man chasing the boy, he finally manages to get the bag back
• He gives the bag back to Amy and says 'there you go love'
• Amy is shocked and says 'oh thanks'
• Justin replies 'no problem'
• There is a flash back of the horoscope.

We decided to make these changes because our target group told us that it needed to be realistic, therefore we changed the homeless man to a poor man, as it wasn't realistic for a rich woman to fall for a homeless man and we thought that she is more likely to give a poor man a chance rather than a random man that is living off the street.

We added more into the start of the opening sequence to interest the audience more. So we thought by including a shot of Amy reading her horoscope because many women like to read their horoscope so it relates to the audience.

We changed the last piece of our opening sequence as we wanted to finish it with something that makes the audience want to know more. To do this we finish with a close up of the two characters looking at each other and then a flash back of the horoscope which says that she will meet her 'prince charming'

Bridget jones opening sequence analysis 

The opening sequence of the Bridget Jones movie starts with the main character in a room. The room is a normal typical room however what the character is wearing a “red pyjamas” which connotes happiness and seasonal. Allowing us to get a view of the character attitude, being happy and very bubbly. Like many romantic comedy character this is the ideal main character that the audience would like too see as they can easily find her likeable. Further on in the open sequence we see the main character singing to “all by myself” giving connotations that she’s alone and is seeking a relationship. This is an ongoing narrative linked to the romantic comedy genre . we also see more into the characters character image when we see her smoking a cigarette in her bedroom giving connotations that she is easy going and in fact a kind of rebel. from this opening sequence you get the main characters character, as easy going and happy which immediately pulls the audiences into like the main character getting them to keep watching. in the opening sequence the lightning starts off as very dark which reflects the charcters lightning however in contrast to her dressing the lightning shows loneliness while her clothing connotes happiness meanwhile pulling the audience into watching more. with this we see that the characters of romance comedy movies normally have their character established in the opening sequence in other to draw the audience in straight away.

Our finding for this questionnaire as helped gained a lot of information about our target audience

19 out of 29 people aged 15- 20go to the cinema regularly.

out of the 19 people that go to the cinema 14 of them are girls .

our genre for our opening sequence is rom com with this we found out that 15 out of 29 people like the rom com genre.

however the second leading genre was comedy with 8 out of 29 people choosing this

everyone who chose rom com ah their favourite genre all explained that the reason they were so drawn to the genre was because of how funny and entertaining rom coms were.

We also found out that 14 out of 15 people that like the rom com genre liked pop music

and the most common use of advertisement is with billboards/tv adverts/ and cinema adverts

overall I think that the research that we gained from the questionnaire is very useful in the context that we know what the audience are expecting. From this questionnaire we know that they are expecting pop music and a really interesting and funny narrative

our movie idea I about a successful business woman who gets mugged by someone and in this misfortune  an homeless man comes to her rescue with this she repays him by giving him a job and making he's life better, however it has an unwanted turn of event as she slowly starts to fall in love with him.

Thriller movie opening sequence research

The Bride wakes up after a long coma. The baby that she carried before entering the coma is gone. The only thing on her mind is to have revenge on the assassination team that betrayed her - a team she was once part of. In the opening sequence of kill bill its starts with a confusing scene showing some signs of injustice and violence this is an ongoing convention in thriller movies. the lightning of the scene is very dark and gloomy which shows danger its is also black and white hinting the evidence of it being in the past or rather a dream the tormentor is a man and the face of the tormenter is not reviewed it is only he's voice and the deafening sound of he's shoes that is heard showing that idea of the antagonist always having a hiding identity in the in the first opening sequence leaving the audiences to be guessing of who the villain is also the shot at the end of the scene was very out of the blue giving the thrill that the audiences watch thrillers for.

so after our pitch which wasn't very successful we all decided we would start afresh and everyone would individually think of a movie genre and think up an opening sequence

Strengths 
i  think today our strength of the pitch was being able to identify our weaknesses with the opening sequence idea we have chosen to do i also think that our strenght was also being able to listen to the advice we have being given and develop this idea more 


weakness our weakness today was the fact that we were very unprepared and we didn't do our research properly on the genre that we choose to do this brought us back because it showed that we didn't know the conventions of our choosen genre and it affected how we presented our opening sequence becaquse we potrayed it more like a horror rather than a thriller 


oppurtunities 
At this point i dont think we have any generally great opportunities because we  we have to start afresh leving us a bit behind however the good out of all this is that we realise our mistakes earlier on meaning we can be sure that earlier on in the production stage we have no regrets.

the only threat that is visible is about the fact that now we are going to be abit behind and for our previous idea we were informed that the threat of that is that it seems like a horror movie instead of a thriller and also with low budget it would be hard to video shoot in the dark as it gets dark quickly these days 




however i hope that we have a discussion which will help us onto what we have to do to progress in our production

my idea for our thriller movie

So after our individual reasearch and discususion we all came up with a genre we wanted to base our project on. we decided on thriller
my idea for a thriller opening sequence is
 A dark alley
Ashadow walking and havy braething from the cold
voice over: evr felt watched?
suddenly a girl with hair behind her hood turns around and back but starts walking in a more staedy pace...
slow pacing music (braething of mist from cold weather , staedy shaky cam from fast paced walking)
she starts to slow down a bit
voice over: then when you feel safe it comess from its hidding place) as soon as this a loud footstep folows after the girl and another shadow emerges
the girl starts running
the shadow is slow but the footsteps are louder
she turns around and sees a dark figure
scared she keeps running- then hits something
then shes in the hands of the dark figure - with a defening scream
voice over: it will get you sooner or later
scream goes on and a girl is show waking up from the dream as it turns to black with a myterious music

My gangster movie idea

          From my research and understanding of gangster movies i have come up with an idea fora gangster movie.


Gangster movies involve alot of elemets taht make it that genre and to keep in that genre i think i have to involve
1. A rivary team or family
2. A lot of violent act e.g with guns and knives
3. car chases potraying the action
4. also they tend to have an element of betrayal
5. trust

Jacobs estavlo- the pablos main rival
Elena estavlo- love intrest of main intrest/ main chracters rival daughter
Mark mariane- Estavlos main man/ Elenas boyfriend




 Athonio the son of Edward pablo.Edward is a rival of jacobs estavlo and soon Edwards is drawn into this war unwillingly but he knows that to survive in this world he as too fight for it.Hes still young though and when hes father is badly beaten up by one of estavlos men Mark it gets personal and Anthinio is drawn right in the middle of it. In other for revenge anthonio and hes fathers men kidnap jacobs estavlos daughter elena and also marks girlfriend.elena isnt happy with her relashionship, while shes eing kidnaped she is treated incredibly nice compared to other men by anthonio an she then sees a real kind heart in him. unwillingly anthonio also sees a kind heart to her soon they fall in love.secreatly as they fall in love anthonio sets elena free and with this a turnof event occured that showed the betrayal of mark killing hes boss and elenas father with only one place too turn too elena tries to reach to anthonio but its too late as mark already knows about the relashionship by a spy from the pablos men and with this no one is safe now it is anthonio against everyone to save the one he loves, in the end he succedly kills mark with the help of hes father and also hes father admits the idea that hes rival was in fact childish. then elena nad anthonio live happily ever after. but are still surrounded by thier mafia ways and great dangers.


     In my ganster movie idea i went against convention in the idea that in gangster movies the rival team is a battle against eachother but i went against  that and made it that they worked to save something together.Also i changed it in the idea that theres a love intrest when normally convension wise in a gangster movies its always a one man game thing.

guy two : its not my fault man.
guy one : damn yes it your fault.(none of thier faces are yet to be reavealed)
guy two : im... sorry man trully i am
guy one : you made me look like an iddiot i warned you.( a click is heard)
guy two : sorry man plaese (we see a shadow step back)
a gun is pointed as we see in the shadow, guy one tries to run but its to late
a loud gunshot is heard
then a voice over is heard as the gun man walks away and we see he back only....


voice over :in the street theres no sorry you act or you die....

a whimpring sound, someone on the floor with a dirty cloth round thier mouth

Black shoes are seen walking down with a crashing sound, door opens and it creeks loudly.


intregator: so are you ready to tell me(guy with black shoes to the totured)
tortured:(whimpers)
integator pulls the cloth off
tortured: never (spits)
interogator: smiles (face isnt revaeled)
interagator:pulls a gun out) i knew youd say that, but its fine theres just another dog like you out there( a gun shot is heard)
zoom in to the interogators face with  it covered in blood.

alot of people are seen in a bright long shot till a voice emerges
and it slowly starts to turn dark

voice over: somethings people dont know... they should we dont get to pick who to die we should all die and suffer and i shall make sure everyone does suffer... ( with this speech its darkening)

a gun shot is heard followed by screams then everything comes to an abrupt stop and silene folows.

     The preliminary task involved making a 30 second clip of a conversation beetween two people it must include match on action and also stick to the 180 degree rule,

Firstly we didn't stick to the brief in the case that it the whole clip was meant to be 30 seconds 

I think this away as we felt we didn't really get enough clips to be able to show our story in thirty seconds in our next production i feel as an improvement we should take more time planning as then we know what we can do to follow the brief appropriately.

Our next main task was keeping to the 180 degree rule, i think we done this rather good for a first try as we didn't break the rule while the conversation was going on. I think that the 180 degree rule was quite easy for us as we all understood what wee needed to do so even when the person was filming the mistakes were easy to pick up on.

I think that we attempted the match on action but not very successful i think in the future to make this better we should show more sequence of events. 

    Editing was very important in our production and am not familiar with using the i movie for editing but i have learnt a lot of things by trying it myself and watching my other team members do so. i learnt about transition, effects, rough cuts and inserting music we done alot of effects which helped us create a mood i think next time as an improvement we should use some more transitions because wed didn't use many transitions in our editing.
